Right! Research is over! I know my ideas and now it is time to put them across.
EDITORIAL
The idea for my editorial shoot is referencing the typical African Zulu tribe. This shoot will be focused on a lot of colour, patterrn and bold statements. There will be a large headpiece and lots of styling that will hold the look together - more so than the makeup. However this doesnt mean the makeup wont be focused on, it just means that the makeup will blend around my styling as opposed to the styling having to fit the makeup.
HAIR:
My idea for hair is the most creative part of my styling. Bascially, I want to reference the life of a typical African woman (from all african tribes). I want to show this referencing by creating a head piece that looks like a bowl being held on the head. This will be created using scarves, a beehive, tights and newspaper. The props sound odd, but it will all come together cheaply and easily!!
The bowl on the head isnt necesserily going to be a bowl. The idea is more about representing this look and referencing the tribal styles, but not copying them. And becuase this is an editorial look I am going to make it a much more fashionable style.
Here is a step by step of how the hair will be created:
Step One: Using a clear pair of tights, stuff them with newpaper and shape into a circular shape. Create more than one of these shapes, and pile them up ontop of one another. To create more of a bowl shape, the circles need to go from narrow to wide all the way up the head. The structure needs to be pinned securely into the head:
Step Two: Wrap the models hair over this prop which will create an OTT beehive style! Pin the hair into the structure securely and make sure that all of the structure is covered:
Step Three: Wrap a scarf around the shape to hold the structure of the bowl and pattern. The hair can poke out of the top to see the style and the scarf can just be wrapped around the bottom half (which will allow me to reference both hair and accessories).
Step Four: Tie and pin the scarf into shape and then accessorize the rest of the hair style with a beaded headband around the forehead and beads into the hair.
I also had a go of using a more solid structure and then attatching it to the head and wrapping a scarf around it. This was the outcome of that:
